The Stella Maris College Scout Group has been upgrading and refurbishing its headquarters, undertaking various projects over the past years. These include a complete electrical overhaul of all rooms, stainless steel surfaces and appliances in the kitchen, and new storage in the Troop room, to mention some examples. Over the coming year, the Scout Group will be benefiting once more from Aġenzija Żgħażagħs A4U scheme, as it will embark on Operation Chuckbox - a project that will see the replacement of some outdated kitchen appliances and cookware, used both within the headquarters itself and also whilst at camp. Through projects such as these, the Scout Group aims to provide a functional and safe space that all its members can benefit from.

Over the past months, Scouts, Ventures and Rovers organised clean up events at Gharghur valley, filling up several skips with bulky waste, litter and invasive flora from the valley. This was done as part of the Groups commitment to the environment, through the Be Active project T3 - Caring for the Environment, Caring for the Mind which is supported by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. These Trash Collection activities complement the Trekking and Tree Planting events that were also held as part of this project, and which collectively aim to improve and raise appreciation of our natural environment.

Baden Powell once told scouts to try and leave this world a little better than you found it”. Earlier this month, the Stella Maris College Scout Group organised a tree planting session where a number of local trees were planted, whilst existing ones were tended to. This was done as part of the Be Active project T3 - Caring for the Environment, Caring for the Mind, supported by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. During this initiative, Ventures undertook a number of tasks intended to appreciate and improve our natural environment, whilst also emphasizing the importance that this plays on our mental well-being. This was achieved by focusing on the three Ts: Trekking, Tree Planting and Trash Collection.

The Troop Room is currently undergoing major refurbishments! Another phase of this project has just been concluded, as part of the A4U project entitled The Lion, The Den and The Wardrobe which is supported by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. The old cabinets and shelving which were no longer usable have been replaced with a wall unit that stores all the Troop equipment, Band instruments, Crew supplies, as well as a fifth pull-out den for the Lion Patrol. Through this initiative, the Groups members have a safer and more organised space, whilst learning basic DIY skills along the way. More works are scheduled to happen in the Troop room over the coming months, as the Group embarks on additional projects to further improve other areas of its headquarters.

Fantastic can't wait until we can get together together. We have lots to catch up on. Can't believe we have been twinned since 2009. Let's make up for lost time. From Keswick Scout Group.

It looks amazing. Well done SMC. So proud of you. 👏😊❤️

Unrecognizable from days there as ASL

Now that COVID restrictions are slowly being lifted, the Venture Unit has moved on to the next phase of the Be Active project entitled T3 - Caring for the Environment, Caring for the Mind. During this project, which is financed by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, the Ventures are undertaking a number of tasks intended to appreciate and improve our natural environment, whilst also emphasizing the importance that this plays on our mental well-being. This is being achieved by focusing on the three Ts: Trekking, Tree Planting and Trash Collection. Over the past two weekends, the Ventures split up into a number of small groups and went on a trekking expedition, enjoying the great weather we have been having, and thankful for being able to resume in-person scouting. During the trek, ventures also identified some potential locations for the tree planting and cleanup activities that will be held in the coming weeks.

Refurbishment works in the Troop Room are moving on at a steady pace! The aim is to provide our members with a more safe, organised and usable space that they can use in the near future.
This refurbishment work is part of a project entitled The Lion, The Den and The Wardrobe, and it is part funded by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ under the A4U scheme. This project will see a complete overhaul of the storage facilities in the Troop room, provide a new den for the Lion patrol, and also help our members learn DIY and basic woodwork in the process.
